Brick Pond and Hiawatha Island are historically significant sites in Tioga County. Hiawatha Island, which is the largest river island in NYS, was used by native people as a resting area and for agricultural purposes. Later, a four-story Hotel was built and was successful for many decades. Remnants of this hotel and barns exist on the island today.
