In 1924, John Pierpont Morgan, Jr. gave his father`s extraordinary library to the public. One of the country`s most prominent financiers, Morgan was a voracious collector, acquiring the array of rare books, manuscripts, drawings, prints, and ancient artifacts that form the core of the library`s holdings. The distinguished complex is housed in a series of interconnected buildings, including Morgan`s original, early 20th century library designed in a grand classical style by the prominent architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White.
