Storyteller and author Joe Bruchac of Greenfield Center, New York, will present a program about Grant’s friend, Civil War staff secretary, and first Native American Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Ely Parker. Joe will also share insights into Grant’s relationship with Native Americans during his time in public office and over the course of their friendship.
Joe’s poems, articles and stories have appeared in over 500 publications and he is the author of more than 170 books for adults and children. Much of his writing is drawn from his connection to the Adirondack mountain foothills town where he grew up and his Abenaki ancestry.

Saratoga Arts made this program possible with a Community Arts Grant funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and The New York State Legislature.
